Adelaide Metro has invited the public to give it feedback on a draft framework to improve transport for all South Australians.
As Adelaide’s public transport system, the Metro said the draft South Australian Public Transport Diversity and Inclusion Framework (2021-2026) would meet the needs of diverse communities to ensure anyone could catch an Adelaide Metro train, bus or tram.
It said the draft framework, which included targeted action plans, had been developed to address the barriers some people faced when engaging with public transport.
“Our goal is for every person who uses our services to feel welcome and included on public transport, so they can easily get to where they need to go,” Adelaide Metro said.
It said the framework and action plans were created through research, qualitative and quantitative evidence and consultation with industry stakeholders and specialist peak bodies.
It said the framework focused on priority groups which included: First Nations people – Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders; multicultural communities; older people; students and young people; and women.
“As our knowledge grows, we plan to expand the groups so we get a good understanding of all of our users,” Adelaide Metro said.
The system is now seeking input on the framework from the broader community, with consultation to Friday 22 October.
It said feedback comments, themes and ideas would help finalise the framework and action plans.
“Once the plans are ready, we will set-up a network of stakeholders/community groups, to consult, co-design and refine policies, practices and procedures within Adelaide Metro,” it said.
