Public health inspectors come to life

The Victorian Commission for Gambling and Liquor Regulation has launched a new team to inspect venues for compliance with Department of Health COVID-19 directives.

The Commission said its Public Health Enforcement Team (PHET) was in addition to its liquor and gaming inspectors and would be active in both metropolitan and regional areas.

“While on duty, PHET will be ensuring compliance with the Public Health and Wellbeing Act 2008, while liquor and gaming inspectors will be monitoring compliance with requirements under the Liquor Control Reform Act 1998 and Gambling Regulation Act 2003,” the Commission said.

“Inspectors will produce a Victorian Government Department of Health identification card upon arrival at the venue,” it said.

“Although this identification card looks different to what is carried by our liquor and gaming inspectors, it is no less official, and inspectors must be granted entry to licensed venues.”

The Commission said licensed venues could be inspected by both its PHET and its liquor and gaming inspectors within a short time frame.

It said inspectors would pay close attention to the display and use of digital QR code record keeping and other restrictions and requirements outlined on the State’s COVID-19 website.

“Venues should also be aware that members of the public can also submit information about potential COVIDSafe breaches via the complaints page on our website,” the Commission said.
