Young Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people have been invited to join the Public Sector Commission’s 2021 Aboriginal Traineeship Program.

The program is coordinated by the PSC to create a future-fit, collaborative and diverse Government sector and help today’s young people develop the skills to be tomorrow’s sector leaders.

In a statement, the Commission said Agencies could now apply to host a young Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander trainee in their workplace.

The Commission urged Agencies and individuals to “get the word out” by downloading its digital promotional pack.

“The program helps Agencies to build diverse, talented and inclusive workforces and gives young Aboriginal people formal training, prospective employment opportunities and support while completing a Certificate III in Government,” the PSC said.

“We run the program in metropolitan and regional areas each year by matching interested host Agencies with trainees and provide ongoing support throughout the traineeship,” it said.

It said the program provided an opportunity for motivated young Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people to kick-start their career in the WA Government sector.

The Commission listed the benefits of the program as 12 months paid employment (or 18 months part time); work experience in a Government Agency; continuing support to develop the public administration skills necessary for future employment; and academic support and guidance to achieve a Certificate III in Government.

More information about the program can be accessed at this PS News link and applications close 9 October.
