The Community and Public Sector Union (CPSU) has released the report on its 10th annual survey of what public sector women want.
The national survey asks women from the Australian Public Service (APS), Northern Territory Public Service, ACT Public Service and parts of the private sector about the key issues in their working lives.
National Secretary of the CPSU, Melissa Donnelly said the report was the only one of its kind in Australia and provides valuable insight internationally with few comparable studies.
“It details women’s journey to equity across the public and private sector, highlighting the need for Government action on gender equity,” Ms Donnelly said.
“We continue to see concerning data, showing continuing declines in permanent employment, growing concerns and prevalence of outsourcing and casualisation of essential services, and increasing contact outside of work.”
She said the latest survey showed again that women wanted more flexible work arrangements but their ability to balance work and non-work commitments continued to decline for the fifth year in a row.
“This has been further stressed by more out-of-hours contact by Departments and Agencies.
Insecure work is an increasing issue for all women across the Australian and State Public Services,” Ms Donnelly said.
“Women across the APS are worried about their jobs due to the steady increase in outsourcing and the Average Staffing Level cap.”
She said the 10th What Women Want Survey was the longest and largest of its kind.
