The Department of Human Services (DHS) is calling for dedicated Public Servants to join its team of Disability Services Officers and support people living with disability.

Announcing the job openings, the Department said it was seeking Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander applicants for roles in its Accommodation Services division.

DHS said Accommodation Services was one of the largest providers of Supported Independent Living in South Australia.

“We support people living with disability to live as independently as possible by supervising and helping with everyday tasks,” DHS said.

It said Disability Services Officers supported people with disability in all aspects of daily living, such as community inclusion; personal care and grooming; building and maintaining independence; and interpersonal relationships.

The Department said it would host a free information session this Thursday (25 November) from 12.30pm to 2.30pm at Tauondi Aboriginal College, 1 Lipson Street, Port Adelaide and participants could register to attend by emailing [email protected].

“Join our friendly Accommodation Services team to learn more about the opportunities available to you,” it said.

DHS said permanent and casual positions were available for Aboriginal people who were interested in making a positive difference in the lives of other First Nations people living with disability.

It said new staff members would be provided with all required training, on-the-job learning as well as an accredited traineeship program.

It said positions were available across Adelaide suburbs, Kadina and Mount Gambier, with an Aboriginal-specific service in the western suburbs of Adelaide.

DHS said applicants must have a South Australian Driver’s Licence (C class) and a National Police Check issued in the past six months, at the time of commencing employment with DHS.
