Twelve members of the ACT Public Service have been deployed to Queensland to help the victims of recent weather disasters recover.
Minister for Community Services, Chris Steel said ACT Directorates were asked to identify willing and available personnel suitable for interstate deployment.
“The ACT has offered two teams of six people for two weeks to help backfill over 200 Queensland Government staff who have been working extended hours in a number of centres established in city and regional areas,” Mr Steel said.
“We have a mix of staff from a number of Directorates with social work, admin and psychology skills as well as rural, Indigenous and disaster response experience.”
He said the deployed staff were likely to be working with people and communities in flood-affected areas that had experienced a significant level of trauma.
“ACT Government staff would be deployed into key roles including helping process grants, referring people to services and managing centres to ensure they are functioning well, welcoming and supporting people in need of assistance, and providing community outreach and communication,” Mr Steel said.
“Our thoughts are with those struggling in North Queensland, and we wish our Community Recovery Team well and thank them for their ongoing dedication to strong and healthy communities.”
