NSW public servants can now access information on buying accessible digital products and services that are usable for everyone with Buy NSW launching procurement guidance.
Releasing its Buying accessible digital products and services everyone can use guidance, Buy NSW said State Government buyers had a legal responsibility to buy accessible products and services.
“Accessible products and services also make it easier for you to engage, reach and serve more customers and employees,” Buy NSW said.
“One in five people in NSW have a disability, so it’s likely that a current or future user has accessibility needs,” it said.
“Buying accessible products and services ensures everyone can use them, regardless of abilities – this includes the users of the product or service you’re buying.”
Buy NSW said the guidance included accessibility requirements; assessing accessibility evidence; selecting suitable products or services; and checklists, risk examples and templates.
It said the guidance was one of many accessible procurement solutions shared with the Agency by more than 200 people with lived experience of disability, procurement professionals and buyers.
“So next time you’re buying, keep accessibility in mind,” it said.
“If you need support, or if you can support us with policy and embedding accessibility in your agency’s procurement processes, email [email protected]”
