The Community and Public Sector Union (CPSU) is reminding public service employees affected by COVID-19 pandemic and/or the recent severe weather events, that they could be entitled to take special leave.

Issuing the reminder, the CPSU said members could be able to access four different types of special leave arrangements, depending on their circumstances.

“If you have been affected by the floods, for example road closure, public transport not working, or evacuated, and are unable to make alternative arrangements for work, you are able to access FACS leave,” the Union said.

“If you have no available FACS leave, please contact [your] manager as Special Leave may be granted,” it said.

“Where the workplace is not operational due to weather damage, Transport for NSW (TfNSW) is going to take steps to provide alternative workplace accommodation or flexible working arrangements.”

CPSU said that where the Agency was unable to implement alternative arrangements, TfNSW could approve special leave.

The Union said emergency service volunteers were entitled to special leave for the time they were away from work volunteering.

It said public servants who’d contracted COVID-19 could apply for special sick leave if their regular sick leave had run out.

“Moving forward, the 20 days COVID special leave is still operative.

“If you are unable to work due to isolation, caring for a family member, transport disruption, or caring for a family member due to closure of schools or caring facilities you can continue to access the 20 days of COVID special leave,” CPSU said.
