The Australian Information and Privacy Commissioner, Angelene Falk has launched a newsletter aimed at sharing information about the activities of her office.
Ms Falk said the newsletter, entitled Information Matters, would be a regular bulletin.
She said it would feature news about the work of the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner (OAIC) across the information rights spectrum, from freedom of information and open Government issues to privacy and data protection updates.
She said it would reflect the growing interrelationship between information access and data protection, and the crossover between networks relating to privacy professionals and information contact officers.
“It also responds to the feedback we received from all our subscribers through our survey earlier this year,” Ms Falk said.
“Members of these two networks will continue to receive specific alerts and invitations through our mailing lists.”
She said May was a highlight of the OAIC’s calendar.
“As well as being Privacy Awareness Week around Australia it is also Information Awareness Month, the theme of which is Innovation with Information, highlighting the importance of good information practices in enabling innovation,” Ms Falk said.
“This is equally true when it comes to personal information handling practices. Our central message during Privacy Awareness Week was Don’t be in the Dark on Privacy.”
Ms Falk urged newsletter subscribers to email her office at [email protected] with any feedback.
