Pretty Little Thing is the first release from Kaitlyn Thomas since she starred on, and made the top 30 of, this year’s Australian Idol.
It’s a great song that deserves mainstream airtime.
The song is sure to become a female empowerment anthem and I should imagine that it’ll be picked up by many artists for inclusion in their repertoires.
Kaitlyn has developed a style that is a blend of traditional country melded with country rock and pop.
She’s been heavily influenced by her heroes Dolly Parton, Linda Ronstadt, and Shania Twain.
The song developed from her own personal experience, one I’m certain many young female artists have had to endure, and she collaborated with the highly sought-after production duo of MSquared (James Johnston & The Veronicas) to bring it to fruition.
The whole process took three days to complete, from the idea and title (all she initially had) to finished song.
She teamed up with writing partners Paynter and Delo of Nashville renown and the song was written in a day, the vocals were laid down the next day, and the production completed on the third.
The song is accompanied by an excellent film clip that was shot by Benny Greggs which set out to capture all the energy of Kaitlyn in live performance.
Kaitlyn is a graduate of both the junior and senior Country Music Academies and she’s also represented Australia at the World Championships of Performing Arts where she achieved medal status.
She’s also played at some of our major festivals including the Tamworth Country Music Festival and Road to Roma.
When she belts out the chorus “I Ain’t No Pretty Little Thing” there’s the ring of hard-earned experience and aura of authenticity to what she’s singing.
