Premier takes lead of vaccination push

Thousands more Western Australians are now eligible for vaccinations at any of the three State-run community vaccination clinics with shots extended to those 50 and over.

People in this age group can book in and receive the AstraZeneca COVID-19 vaccination from the State-run clinics, or from a participating GP clinic from 17 May.

In regional WA, hospital-based vaccination clinics are also offering vaccinations in the Goldfields, Great Southern, Kimberley, Mid-West, Pilbara, South-West and Wheatbelt, in addition to a number of local GP clinics.

Premier, Mark McGowan said anyone from regional WA who planned to travel to Perth and was eligible for a vaccination due to their work or age, could make an appointment, but would need to return to the metropolitan area within the recommended timeframe for the second dose.

Mr McGowan said this after rolling up his own sleeve for a COVID-19 vaccination (pictured).

“As I’ve said all along, when my turn comes up I won’t hesitate to get the vaccine,” Mr McGowan said.

“This is ultra-important because the more people who get vaccinated, the more we protect our families, friends and community,” he said.

“As more community clinics come online, vaccination rates across the State continue to be boosted which offers us more protection against the threat of COVID-19.”

The Premier said the Government was also continuing a focus on vaccinating priority groups such as front-line healthcare, quarantine, border, high-risk and critical workers “so we remain on the front foot in tackling this pandemic”.
