Canberra’s most popular cat names have come to light through City Services’ new annual cat registration system.

According to OurCBR, more than 5,500 cats have been registered to date, revealing that food and famous characters are among popular naming trends, along with some unique and ingenious cat puns.

OurCBR said Charlie, Luna and Bella were the three most popular cat names so far, while Bacon, Bagel and Biscuit taking out the top spots for food-related names.

It said 50 Cent, Astro Boy and Braveheart were amongst the most popular famous and character inspired names.

Celebrating the creativity of Canberra’s cat owners, OurCBR gave honourable mentions to the felines named Artificial Lunar Conspiracy, Autumn aka Get Off That! and Boatswain Moon.

“Since 1 July 2022, all cats are required to be registered via an online smart form– with details to be updated annually,” OurCBR said.

“Cat registration helps reunite lost cats with their families faster, through up-to-date contact details.”

It said cats born before 1 July this year could be registered for free until 1 July 2023 and owners of cats born after 1 July this year would pay a small one-off fee.
