Queensland’s Police Budget is to contribute to the biggest boost for policing in the State in three decades.
Minister for Police and Corrective Services, Mark Ryan said new allocations would support crucial front-line jobs.
“The delivery of those extra resources began on 1 July, with intakes of new recruits already progressing through Queensland’s two Police Academies,” Mr Ryan said.
“The extra personnel will not only give police an enhanced capability to respond to crime, but also to disrupt and prevent crime.”
In addition, a $300-million, five-year, capital works program would deliver new police infrastructure across the State – and support jobs for local builders and tradies.
“The record Police Budget also supports a number of other important initiatives, including the rollout of Mobile Police Beats over the next few years,” Mr Ryan said.
“Mobile Police Beats are an innovation the Commissioner was keen to introduce as a means of delivering a heightened police presence in local communities.”
He said the Government would also allocate $35 million over five years to deliver 5,000 new QLiTE iPads (pictured) to frontline police.
“These devices are a cornerstone of the modern policing philosophy, characterised by a police service that is mobile, agile and able to respond swiftly in numbers to wherever police are needed,” Mr Ryan said.
“Every front-line officer will have one of these devices.”
