A night-time traffic operation by Logan Police resulted in the interception of more than 375 drivers as part of continuing road safety strategies.
Logan Police said the operation, targeting drink driving, was held in Waterford during which 25 officers conducted 375 roadside breath tests (RBTs) and three roadside drug tests.
Officer in Charge of Logan District Road Policing Unit, Senior Sergeant Darren Smith said of the RBTs conducted, two returned a positive roadside breath test.
“At the conclusion of the operation, four drivers were charged with drink or drug driving offences and a total of 22 infringement notices were issued,” Senior Sergeant Smith said.
“Our main reason for conducting this road safety operation is to remind those using roads within the Logan District that road safety is everyone’s responsibility.”
He said that every decision made behind the wheel counted.
“Those who made the decision to drink and drive have not only put themselves at risk, but their fellow road users as well,” Senior Sergeant Smith said.
“We remind them, and everyone, that drinking and driving do not mix,” he said.
“While we want people to enjoy themselves, our main priority is that everyone returns home safely.”
Senior Sergeant Smith said people intending to drink should organise another way home “it is as simple as that”.
He said, to date, 145 lives had been lost on Queensland’s roads including nine on roads within the Logan District.
