Canberrans are being urged to lock their cars and houses after four vehicles and one house in Fadden were targeted by thieves.

Station Sergeant at ACT Policing, Greg O’Ryan said that in the early hours of 16 April a residence in Appel Crescent, Fadden, was burgled.

He said the front gate and door had both been left unlocked.

“On the same morning, four vehicles in Appel Crescent and another vehicle in Maughan Crescent were targeted by thieves,” Station Sergeant O’Ryan said.

“Most of these vehicles had been left unlocked, and some had been parked in driveways or carports.”

He said vehicle and home security should never be taken for granted.

Station Sergeant O’Ryan said that while theft from motor vehicles was often an opportunistic crime, these thefts suggested offenders were actively looking for easy targets.

“Whoever committed these crimes was quite brazen in entering a home while people were sleeping inside, and in stealing from vehicles in a carport,” he said.

“This underlines the importance of locking vehicles and premises overnight.”

Station Sergeant O’Ryan said anyone who had witnessed suspicious activity in the Fadden area in the early hours of 16 April or who had information that could assist police should call Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
