The Environment Protection Authority Victoria (EPA) has partnered with the Department of Jobs, Precincts and Regions for the second year in a row to celebrate National Science Week (14-22 August), with a suite of podcasts showcasing the role of science in Victorian Government Agencies.

The EPA said the Science in Government limited podcast series was presented by the Lead Scientist for Victoria, Amanda Caples and Chief Environmental Scientist for Victoria, Mark Patrick Taylor, and sought to increase awareness about the diversity of Government careers in science.

The Authority said the five podcasts featured 10 State Government scientists discussing how they applied science in their roles.

“From a remote sensing scientist using geospatial data to inform land use and animal production, to people at the centre of Victoria’s recent emergency response efforts,” the EPA said.

“These scientists discuss their backgrounds, current roles and what led them to pursue a career in Government,” it said.

Chief Environmental Scientist at the EPA, Mark Patrick Taylor said Science Week provided an important opportunity to acknowledge the contributions of all scientists and to inspire the State’s next generation of scientists.

“It provides an important platform to engage and encourage us all to be fascinated by the world we live in,” Professor Taylor said.
