SA Health has opened Pfizer COVID-19 vaccination bookings for 12 to 15 year olds, with more than 60,000 appointments at clinics to meet expected demand.
Announcing the eligibility last week (13 September), Premier, Steven Marshall said it was the first time all 12 to 15 year olds were eligible to receive a vaccine of any kind in South Australia.
Mr Marshall announced that for the rest of September, Years 11 and 12 students aged 16 and over could qualify for priority walk-in access by using their student card at selected SA Health-run vaccination clinics.
He said the priority access would give students the opportunity to be fully vaccinated before the school year finished, which was typically a few weeks earlier than other years.
Minister for Health and Wellbeing, Stephen Wade said the Pfizer vaccine was available to anyone over 12 years at SA Health clinics, while AstraZeneca would continue to be available to anyone over 18 years with informed consent.
Mr Wade said all SA Health clinics would offer vaccines to 12 to 15 year olds with the exception of pop-up clinics at Adelaide Myer Centre and Pooraka.
He said that in line with advice from the Australian Technical Advisory Group on Immunisation (ATAGI), people who have had one dose of AstraZeneca needed to get their second dose of the same vaccine.
The Minister said Years 11 and 12 students could receive a vaccination without an appointment at the following clinics: Wayville (before 3.30pm); Elizabeth; Enfield; Noarlunga; Port Augusta; Whyalla; Port Lincoln; Victor Harbor (call before attending); Mt Barker (call before attending); and Gawler (call before attending).
