All Canberrans between the ages of 30 and 39 can now book in for a Pfizer COVID-19 vaccination at an ACT COVID-19 Mass Vaccination Clinic.
Minister for Health, Rachel Stephen-Smith said the opening of appointments to 30 to 39 year olds came as the Territory reached two major milestones – 50 per cent of the adult population had received one dose of a COVID-19 vaccine and 25 per cent had received two doses.
“Vaccines are the only way out of this pandemic,” Ms Stephen-Smith said.
“There is no other viable alternative to protect yourself and the people around you from very serious illness,” she said.
“There is no other alternative to ending the lockdowns and the travel restrictions that have impacted on our lives.”
Ms Stephen-Smith said the vaccines significantly reduced the risk of ending up in ICU due to COVID-19 infection.
She said the more people who got a vaccinated, the better protected the entire Canberra community would be.
“Of the 70,000 30 to 39 year olds in the ACT, 16,000 have already received their first dose as part of Phases 1A and 1B and more than 20,000 have already registered with MyDHR,” Ms Stephen-Smith said.
“ACT Health will contact every person who registered through MyDHR to notify them that appointments are now open.”
The Minister encouraged all 30 to 39 year olds who had not yet received a COVID-19 vaccination to book online through MyDHR as soon as possible.
“As we see new outbreaks across the country and the emergence of highly transmissible strains, now is the time for all eligible Canberrans to book their COVID-19 vaccine appointment, either through an ACT COVID-19 Mass Vaccination Clinic or through their GP,” Ms Stephen-Smith said.
