The term of the City of Perth Commissioners has ended following their replacement with elected Councillors and a Lord Mayor.
Chair of the Commission, Andrew Hammond, Deputy Chair, Gaye McMath, Commissioner, Len Kosova and the late Chair of the Commission, Eric Lumsden performed the duties of the City of Perth Council since their appointment in March 2018 by the Minister for Local Government.
During this period, the Commissioners focused on restoring the city as a benchmark for Local Government and led the city’s corporate recovery.
Mr Hammond said the Commissioners left the City with stable and aligned leadership and an abundance of positive reforms and initiatives that benefitted the organisation, ratepayers and wider community.
As the Commissioners stepped down they were replaced by newly-elected Lord Mayor, Basil Zempilas (pictured) and Councillors.
Governor of Western Australia, Kim Beazley performed the swearing in ceremony for the new Council, saying it would be significantly involved in shaping Perth’s future.
“It will build on the legacy of Perth’s founders and bring the desires of the community to the forefront of the capital city’s Local Government,” Mr Beazley said.
Mr Zempilas said it was a fresh start for the city.
“It is with genuine anticipation I pledge to lead a collaborative, consultative approach to high-quality government. I congratulate my eight new Council colleagues,” Mr Zempilas said.
City of Perth Chief Executive, Michelle Reynolds was Master of Ceremonies for the event.
