NSW’s national parks are busy this week preparing to welcome visitors back into their camping grounds ahead of next week’s long weekend (6-8 June).
Minister for the Environment, Matt Kean said he expected many travellers would be dusting off their tents and vans and heading for the great outdoors now that regional travel was back on the table, but he advised booking ahead was essential.
“More than 255 campgrounds across our State’s beautiful national parks will be open for business by the June long weekend and for the first time every open campground will be bookable online or by phone,” Mr Kean said.
“We are also reopening many of our cottages and cabins for those who might prefer some swankier digs as accommodation in parks,” he said.
“This is good news for nature lovers and good news for regional communities with NSW national parks’ visitors contributing $21 billion to NSW regional economies every year.”
Mr Kean said people should arrive well prepared, practice good hygiene in shared facilities and be aware that physical distancing as per Government health advice must be adhered to.
He said potential visitors should check the National Parks and Wildlife Service (NPWS) website before planning to visit as some campgrounds across the State remained closed due to fire or flood impacts and in others, NPWS was undertaking important upgrades.
