The Department of State Development, Manufacturing, Infrastructure and Planning has announced Queensland’s infrastructure program is to proceed despite the COVID-19 pandemic.

Minister for Infrastructure, Cameron Dick said the 2019 update of the State Infrastructure Plan set out a strong pipeline of capital works over four years.

“Over the next six months more than 130 Government projects are on track to commence construction, valued in excess of $3.8 billion,” Mr Dick said.

“The recently announced Arrow Energy $10 billion Surat Gas Project is an example of how the Government is bringing forward private sector jobs, with more to come.”

He said Queensland’s Coordinator-General would work with executives from the infrastructure and property sector peak bodies, alongside other Directors-General as part of the new Infrastructure Industry Steering Committee.

“This Committee is working together to prioritise and progress catalytic infrastructure projects and development opportunities,” Mr Dick said.

Meanwhile, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Infrastructure, Transport and Regional Development, Michael McCormack said work on key inland freight corridors was set to begin.

“Works to seal roads, build overtaking lanes, upgrade intersections and improve safety will start sooner under an agreement reached between the Australian and Queensland Governments on 22 jointly-funded regional roads projects worth $185 million,” Mr McCormack said.

“The early work projects will be delivered on corridors identified under the Roads of Strategic Importance (ROSI) initiative

He said that as the effects of COVID-19 rippled through the economy, it was crucial all levels of Government worked together to support jobs, drive economic growth and build stronger and safer regional communities.

“Delivering early works through the ROSI initiative will give regional Queensland communities access to new projects and jobs,” the Deputy Prime Minister said.
