The Sydney Opera House has announced a new digital initiative to connect with, inspire, educate and entertain local and global communities while the venue’s doors are temporarily closed to the public.
Chief Executive for Sydney Opera House, Louise Herron said the program – From our House to yours – would include full-length performances and talks, never-before-seen footage, podcasts, long-form articles and behind-the-scenes content.
“While we cannot welcome audiences to live performances in our venues, we are committed to offering the best in arts, culture and entertainment, as we have since opening in 1973,” Ms Herron said.
“Content will be available on demand, in addition there will be scheduled daily releases from our new digital season from Wednesday to Sunday,” she said.
“People can tune in, enjoy and even chat to other viewers while they watch, as part of a wider community.”
Ms Herron said she hoped the new digital program from the Opera House would connect, inspire and comfort people around the world during this challenging time.
She said the first week of the digital season, which began on 1 April, included Missy Higgins, live from the Forecourt 2019; Chanel Miller, Know my Name; Dance Rites 2019; Sydney Symphony Orchestra, Beethoven’s Ninth; and The Writers Room with Celia Pacquola, Josh Thomas, Luke McGregor and Dan Harmon.
