The National Parks and Wildlife Service (NPWS) is celebrating the parks of Onkaparinga this February as its ‘Parks of the Month’.
Senior Ranger for NPWS, Angus Droogan-Turniski said the parks offered many activities, including hiking, camping, rock climbing, fishing, kayaking, snorkelling and bird watching, and provided a perfect escape for people of all abilities to connect with nature in new ways.
Mr Droogan-Turniski said Onkaparinga River National Park, Onkaparinga River Recreation Park, Moana Sands Conservation Park, Encounter Marine Park and the newly proclaimed Aldinga Conservation Park were only a short drive from Adelaide.
“It’s incredible how untouched and unique some of these places are, and how dedicated volunteer and community groups have worked with rangers to keep them beautiful for everyone to enjoy,” he said.
Mr Droogan-Turniski said Parks of the Month activities included:
* Big Heart Adventures yoga at Onkaparinga River National Park’s Punchbowl Lookout;
* Reef Rambles at Aldinga Reef Sanctuary Zone, and snorkelling with Experiencing Marine Sanctuaries (EMS) at Port Noarlunga Reef Encounter Marine Park;
* Guided bushwalks in Aldinga Conservation Park and Moana Sands Conservation Park;
* Ranger guided accessibility walk around the Wetlands at Onkaparinga River Recreation Park; and
* Native bee workshop with the Friends of Aldinga Scrub; and Trail Running SA’s Summer Series at Onkaparinga River National Park.
He said it was his mission to discover the best ways of enjoying the parks, and where to spot wildlife including birds, koalas, kangaroos and possums.
“There’s truly something for everyone in the Onkaparinga parks,” Mr Droogan-Turniski said.
