The Office of the Australian Information Commissioner (OAIC) is gearing up for its annual Privacy Awareness Week (PAW), announcing this year’s theme and calling for supporters.
The theme is Back to Basics and the OAIC said the annual event PAW would run from 1 to 7 May promoting and raising awareness for the importance of protecting personal information.
It said the Week would be led by OAIC in partnership with State and Territory privacy regulators and members of the Asia Pacific Privacy Authorities.
“We all know how important it is to protect personal information – and that our information and technology landscape has become a lot more complicated,” OAIC said.
“But one thing that hasn’t changed is that privacy is fundamental,” it said.
“That’s why this year, we’re encouraging everyone to get Back to Basics on privacy.”
The OAIC invited organisations and individuals to join the Office as PAW 2023 supporters and receive early information about its soon-to-be-released website, events and materials to help people apply best practice in privacy at home and at work
It said signing up as a PAW 2023 supporter was a non-financial commitment to promoting good privacy practices and advancing the privacy rights of individuals.
“It is not a requirement to add your organisation’s logo or website, but if you do, that information will be used on our PAW 2023 website,” the OAIC said.
“PAW supporters have access to our toolkit that has a range of resources and content to help raise awareness and promote good privacy practices to staff, customers and other stakeholders throughout the week.”
