The Community Services Directorate has called on women and people with diverse backgrounds and experience to register on its new ACT Diversity Register.

The call follows the launch of the new online platform, which will take the place of the ACT Women’s Register.

Deputy Chief Minister, Yvette Berry said the new platform would provide greater opportunities for women and diverse members of the Canberra community to apply for available board and committee positions and offer a suite of training and networking opportunities.

Ms Berry said it also wanted responses from organisations across the non-governmental and community sector, the private sector and Government to advertise their board and committee vacancies in an effort to encourage and build a more diverse community.

She said it was now acknowledged that diversity paid off when it came to profitability.

“The Workplace Gender Equality Agency states that diversity in organisations promotes improved decision-making, creativity and innovation and leads to better overall performance,” Ms Berry said.

“With the launch of this new Register, the Canberra community gains an important resource for achieving a diversity of representation across the range of local board opportunities.”

She said it would provide support to those groups who were currently working to reach specific targets, such as sporting organisations who had committed to reaching a 40 per cent target of women’s representation by 2020.
