NIGERIA

A new technical committee has been established to develop a welfare policy for the Nigerian Federal Public Service.

Head of Civil Service of the Federation, Winifred Oyo-Ita (pictured) said the policy was expected to provide a framework that would ensure all issues of welfare for Government employees were addressed and solutions put into law.

“The policy will ensure that all Agencies are committed to providing a caring and supportive work environment that is conducive for the welfare of employees, which enables them to develop to their full potential,” Mrs Oyo-Ita said.

The committee’s report is expected in September.

Meanwhile, Mrs Oyo-Ita is leading a delegation on a mission to Malaysia and Singapore.

A statement from her office said the visit was part of efforts to achieve global best practice in the Nigerian Public Service.

“To achieve this, the Office of the Head of Civil Service of the Federation has developed the Federal Civil Service Strategy and Implementation Plan as a tool to guide the process of repositioning the Civil Service for effective service delivery,” the statement said.

It said Singapore and Malaysia had been chosen as they were countries with efficient Public Services that were recognised globally.

“A selection of institutes and organisations to be visited was made by delegates after wide consultations so as to enable delegates to interact, share experiences and explore areas of partnerships aimed at improving the Nigerian Civil Service,” the statement said.
