One of Australia’s most highly regarded chefs, Annie Smithers is to collaborate with the National Gallery of Victoria (NGV) in its Garden Restaurant on a French farmhouse menu this winter.
Inspired by Ms Smithers’ award-winning restaurant du Fermier and coinciding with the NGV’s Melbourne Winter Masterpieces exhibition Pierre Bonnard: Designed by India Mahdavi, the exclusive menu is to be available for only a limited time from 9 June.
Open for lunch daily and dinner on Friday, the new NGV Garden Restaurant collaboration offers diners a bespoke menu that celebrates Victorian produce and regional French flavours.
Director of the NGV, Tony Ellwood said he was incredibly excited for visitors to immerse themselves in the new offering at the NGV Garden Restaurant this winter.
“Annie Smithers’ food is reminiscent of the traditional French bistros Pierre Bonnard would have frequented in Paris in the 1900s,” Mr Ellwood said.
Ms Smithers said it was an ‘absolute honour’ to be asked to collaborate with the NGV’s Garden Restaurant for their Pierre Bonnard exhibition.
“He is one of my favourite French painters, bringing to life the idyllic rural settings and the importance of ‘the table’ with such vivid colour and style,” Ms Smithers said.
Pierre Bonnard: Designed by India Mahdavi is to be on display from 9 June to 8 October at NGV International, St Kilda Road, Melbourne.
