The Premier has announced a further easing of COVID-19 restrictions to take effect from 1 July, citing the limited community transmission of the virus in the past month.
The Premier, Gladys Berejiklian said the community had “worked incredibly hard” over the past few months which allowed the further easing of restrictions.
“The number of people allowed inside indoor venues will be determined by the ‘one person per four square metre’ rule, with no upper limit,” Ms Berejiklian said.
“Cultural and sporting events at outdoor venues with a maximum capacity of 40,000 will be allowed up to 25 per cent of their normal capacity,” she said.
“On compassionate grounds, restrictions on funerals will immediately be eased to allow the four square metre rule to apply.”
Ms Berejiklian said that all other restrictions, including 20 guests inside the home and 20 for outside gatherings, would remain the same.
She said Deputy Premier John Barilaro, Treasurer Dominic Perrottet and Minister for Customer Service, Victor Dominello had consulted with peak business, industry and community bodies on the changes as part of the Government’s reopening strategy.
Mr Barilaro said the Government would also be considering solutions for smaller venues, particularly in regional NSW, where the four square metre rule was not practical for small businesses.
Mr Dominello said the Government would help business and industry open safely with a variety of simple and easy-to-use tools available through Service NSW.
