The ACT’s sport and recreation organisations have been invited to apply for a share of more than $2.4 million to keep the local community fit and healthy.

Minister for Sport and Recreation, Yvette Berry said the annual Sport and Recreation Grants included six programs for which funds could be applied for.

She said these were Women’s Sport and Recreation Participation and Leadership; Motor Sports Training and Education; Sport and Recreation Operational; Community Sport and Recreation Development; Capital Assistance; and Inclusive Participation.

Ms Berry said 2018 was the second year the program would include specific funding for Women’s Sport and Recreation Participation and Leadership, which aimed to support education and training activities that enhanced participation opportunities for women and girls in the ACT and the abilities for women to take on leadership roles in the sector.

She said that also included for the second year was Motor Sports Training and Education which supported education and training activities that enhanced the experiences and safety of motor sports participants, developed volunteer capacity, improved facility management or increased club capacity and sustainability.

“The grants fund the development of women’s leadership in sport, which is supported by our ACT Budget 2018-19 commitment to back our female athletes and provide girls and women with positive role models for active living,” Ms Berry said.

With a total pool of $2,462,484 available, she encouraged all Canberra’s sport and recreation organisations to make the most of this “fantastic opportunity to grow our physical activity offerings in the Territory”.
