The Department of Water and Environmental Regulation, through its Waste Authority Agency, has issued a Directions Paper as part of a review of the State’s Waste Strategy.
The paper is open for public consultation for a six-week period.
The Waste Avoidance and Resource Recovery Strategy 2030is reviewed every five years and the Directions Paper sets out the key areas the Waste Authority wants to focus on in the future.
It also gives a snapshot on how the State is performing in meeting its targets, identifies strengths and opportunities for the future, as well as areas for improvement.
This first phase of consultation will be open until 11 July. The feedback will help develop a draft updated Waste Strategy, which will be released for a 12-week consultation period later this year.
Minister for the Environment, Reece Whitby urged the public to get involved in helping to create a low-waste, sustainable State.
“This timely review provides an opportunity to reflect on what is working well and highlights our priority areas for the future,” Mr Whitby said.
“We all have a role to play in producing a circular economy that reduces waste and, at the same time, helps to make landfill the last resort.”
