The Department of Mines, Industry Regulation and Safety has developed a social media campaign to educate employers and employees of employment rights and obligations.

Launched by Wageline, the campaign results from a recommendation made by the Inquiry into Wage Theft in Western Australia.

Wageline’s initial launch of a Facebook page will be followed by a Twitter and Instagram presence.

Followers can expect information and updates on State employment laws, including minimum pay rates, public holidays, long service leave, wage theft and changes to WA award wages and conditions.

Executive Director of Private Sector Labour Relations at Wageline, Lorraine Field said the launch of the Wageline Facebook page was an essential step in increasing awareness of employment rights and obligations in Western Australia.

“Employment obligations can be complex to understand, putting employers at risk of legal action and employees at risk of under-payment,” Ms Field said.

“Through this campaign, we are giving employers every opportunity to access information, resources and assistance. Compliance with employment laws is not optional.”

The Government’s wage theft website assists workers with how to seek help with resolving an under-payment issue or report wage theft anonymously.
