New virus helpline all dialled up

Access Canberra has set up a new telephone helpline to assist Canberrans navigating the challenges of the COVID-19 crisis.

The Agency said the helpline would operate between 8am and 8pm daily.

“The situation surrounding COVID-19 is uncertain and rapidly changing, and the Government is making significant investments to ensure Canberrans and local businesses are keep up to date with the latest information from a reliable source,” Access Canberra said.

It said the helpline would help members of the community stay informed and access services such as health advice and referrals; requests for advice and information about business and community stimulus packages; requests for assistance by vulnerable and isolated persons; community reports of non-compliance with health directives; referrals to the ACT Health Protection Services, ACT Policing and Access Canberra Fair Trading; and general COVID-19 related enquiries.

It said the new helpline added to a range of online self-service options currently available to Canberrans.

“The ACT Government remains committed to keeping the community informed of the situation as it progresses, and we will continue to explore further ways that we are provide Canberrans with practical and reliable information on the spread of COVID-19 in our community,” the Agency said.

The new Helpline number is (02) 6207 7244.
