The State Premier, Mark McGowan has joined in a video with women who have lived with the experience of family and domestic violence, workers involved in the sector, and others, to record a message of support to those experiencing violence or control in personal relationships.
Overseen by the Department of Communities in cooperation with a number of other agencies in the field, the online video’s overall message is that domestic violence or control is not OK, and that those affected had a right to feel safe.
The video says there is a whole system of people who can offer support available 24/7, and that anyone should reach out to get the help they need.
In a statement, the Department said the video also included two young girls giving poignant statements that family and domestic violence was never OK.
“For immediate support 24/7, call the domestic violence helplines,” the Department’s statement said.
It said these included the Women’s Domestic Violence Helpline, which provided support and counselling for women experiencing family and domestic violence (including referrals to women’s refuges).
It said the Men’s Domestic Violence Helpline provided counselling and referrals for male perpetrators, as well as male victims of family and domestic violence.
Crisis Care supplied information and counselling service for people in crisis needing urgent help and more information about support services was also available on the Department of Communities website.
