The Department of Transport has declared that construction of the METRONET Trade Training Centre was complete.
The training centre, at North Metropolitan TAFE’s Midland campus, will train people for jobs in the rail industry.
It will support the delivery of a consistent supply of workers to address skill shortages in highly technical roles critical to the smooth running of the rail network.
In a statement, the Department said the centre had been developed in close consultation with relevant industries.
“It includes rail signalling workshops, a dual-track level crossing, a maintenance track and crossover, and a signalling equipment room to enable hands-on training,” the Department said.
“A section of rail line is in place for training in the maintenance of various gauges of rail.”
Minister for Training, Simone McGurk said the Government was investing heavily in the State’s TAFE network to create contemporary, industry-standard learning environments for all Western Australians.
Ms McGurk was supported by the Minister for Transport, Rita Saffioti who said the facility would ensure there would be skilled labour to maintain and manage the expanding track networks in the years to come.
“The METRONET program is creating thousands of local jobs and opportunities for local businesses, making the METRONET Trade Training Centre an essential training facility and key element in supporting WA’s rail industry,” Ms Saffioti said.
