New tools help PS make right decisions

Practical tools and templates to help Public Servants make decisions amid uncertainty have been released by the Victorian Managed Insurance Authority (VMIA).

In a statement, the Authority said it worked with employees across the Victorian Public Sector (VPS) to develop the 23 free Guides.

“(The Guides) were designed for decision-makers in the Victorian Government who are required to assess risks to strategies, business plans and projects under the Victorian Government Risk Management Framework (VGRMF),” the VMIA said.

“Each of the Guides is based on the updated VGRMF and AS ISO 31000,” it said.

“The Guides have been produced with diverse audiences in mind, ranging from board directors and executives, to experienced risk advisors and individuals responsible for making decisions on behalf of Victorian communities.”

The VMIA said VPS organisations interested in using the Guides could also register for free workshops that explored key concepts of risk management and insurance in detail.

The Authority said some of the topics covered by the Guides included identifying, analysing and evaluating risk; defining an organisation’s risk appetite; making decisions in situations of uncertainty; creating an organisational culture that took a positive attitude to risk; and minimising exposure to insurable risk.

It said the Guides could also be applied to managing enterprise risk in organisations that were not required to attest to the VGRMF.

The VMIA’s Guides can be accessed at this PS News link.
