Digital.NSW has teamed up with Investment NSW to launch a sector-wide cyber security strategy aimed at bringing Government and industry together for the first time to ensure NSW’s cyber security industry continues to thrive.
Minister for Digital and Customer Service, Victor Dominello said the strategy, NSW Cyber Security Strategy, focused on four key commitments, including increasing NSW Government cyber resiliency; helping NSW cyber security businesses grow; enhancing the cyber security workforce; and supporting cyber security research and innovation.
Digital.NSW said the Strategy would provide NSW Government Agencies with co-ordinated leadership for best-practice cyber security guidance, services and advice across Government and promote roles and responsibilities across cyber security, privacy, safety and resiliency for Agencies and external partnerships.
It said the Strategy aimed to instil a culture across Government of greater individual and collective cyber security accountability by implementing best-practice cyber security training, awareness and governance.
Digital.NSW said the Strategy would also encourage Agencies to be proactive in managing cyber security risks and threats and to lead by example in the continual improvement of Government cyber security maturity against the NSW Cyber Security Policy.
Minister for Jobs, Investment, Tourism and Western Sydney, Stuart Ayres said under the Strategy, Investment NSW would establish a NSW Cyber Hub to deliver a range of initiatives to accelerate the growth of cyber businesses and attract the right talent to create the workforce needed to address skills gaps.
“NSW already has an incredible depth of talent however we need to continue to foster, cultivate and grow this pipeline to ensure our industry thrives,” Mr Ayres said.
“This Strategy builds on our strengths whilst seeking to grow new ones and will help the NSW digital economy thrive,” he said.
Mr Ayres said the new Strategy replaced the previous NSW Cyber Security Strategy and the NSW Cyber Industry Development Strategy by combining both into one overarching cyber security strategy.
