The Department of Local Government, Sport and Cultural Industries says construction has begun on a 42-metre-high viewing platform at Optus Stadium.

The Department said the platform would allow fans to walk several metres beyond the edge of the stadium roof, giving tour groups access to one of the best views of any stadium in the world.

It said the new structure was complimentary to the iconic Optus Stadium design, with similar materials used on the viewing platform.

Minister for Sport and Recreation, Tony Buti said the platform would provide a 360-degree view to visitors of all ages and abilities of Perth’s landscape, from the Perth Hills in the east to the City in the west.

“The visitor experience will add to the already successful HALO rooftop tours, continuing the stadium and its parklands’ status as one of Perth’s top attractions,” Mr Buti said.

“The new platform is scheduled to open to the public in 2022 and will be accessible to all ages and abilities, with lift access for members of the public that require it, enabling them to move freely within the attraction and take in the magnificent view.”

He said guest safety was a top priority and visitors would be harnessed in during the activities above the field of play but would be able to walk freely throughout the rest of the experience.

“This is an exciting addition to the suite of stadium tours and proves Western Australia’s ability to draw visitors to the State and provide world-class sporting and entertainment experiences,” Mr Buti said.
