Sport and Recreation Victoria has laid down new standards of behaviour for everyone involved in sport and active recreation with an update to its 2018 Fair Play Code.
Launching the 2022 Fair Play Code, Sport and Recreation said the Code’s refresh featured new guidance on the responsibilities of those involved in sport and active recreation from clubs to local councils.
“At the heart of the Fair Play Code are five principles – Integrity, Respect, Responsibility, Safety and Fairness,” Sport and Recreation said.
“These principles apply to everyone involved in sport in Victoria, no matter what role they play,” it said.
“Bad behaviour, violence, cheating and intimidation has no place in sport and recreation in our state.”
Sport and Recreation said the new Code included a self-assessment tool that allowed responsible bodies to see if they were on track in relation to the Fair Play Code requirements.
It said there were also links to the latest resources on LGBTIQ+ and transgender inclusion, as well as an implementation plan to assist organisation with adhering to the Code.
“Victoria’s sporting and recreation organisations are required to adhere to and enforce the Fair Play Code to receive funding from Sport and Recreation Victoria,” it said.
“From July 2024, all Victorian councils will need to ensure equitable access to sporting facilities for people of all genders to be considered eligible to receive infrastructure funding from the Victorian Government.”
