The Department of Education is giving current and aspiring school principals the chance to lead a brand new school next year with 14 new schools set to open in 2024.
Announcing the opening of applications, Minister for Education, Natalie Hutchins said the successful applicants would be able to start at the new schools in Term 2 of this year, giving them nine months to prepare for the 2024 school year.
“They will also need to recruit teachers and staff, design a curriculum and organisational structures that help achieve the school’s vision and values and create an identity for the school through its logo and uniform,” Ms Hutchins said.
“The school principal is a unique and critical role which requires dedicated educational leaders to go above and beyond to both inspire and support our students and staff,” she said.
“I encourage all current and aspiring school principals to apply and lead these new schools in 2024 – to give every student access to a great learning experience and ensure they have the best education.”
Ms Hutchins said applications to lead the new schools could be made through the Department of Education’s Recruitment Online portal until 9 February.
She said the schools – known by their interim names – included Aintree Secondary School; Aintree Specialist School; Alexander Boulevard Primary School; Black Forest East Primary School; Brookfield Primary School; Lockerbie Central Primary School; Lollypop Creek Secondary School; Lollypop Creek Specialist School; Merrifield South Primary School; Officer Brunt Road Primary School; Riverdale Secondary School; Tarneit North Primary School; Truganina North Primary School; and Truganina North Secondary School.
