The Office of the Australian Information Commissioner (OAIC) has launched a new website simplifying access to information and adopting a range of improvements based on user feedback.

The site features improved search functionality, design and navigation.

Announcing the new website, the OAIC said its launch followed a beta trial which was positively received.

“We logged almost 1,200 visits during the three-week test period with more than 4,800 unique page views, and 96 per cent of responses rated the beta website as ‘good’ or ‘ok’,” the OAIC said.

“As part of the move to our new site some links have changed and pages you have bookmarked may no longer work. The new site also has enhanced security settings.”

It said that users had previously found the division of information into ‘fact sheets’, ‘business resources’ and ‘Agency resources’ confusing.

“You also found their numbering system confusing. You wanted our information to be topic-based and designed for web, not print,” it said.

“We’ve removed the print-based concept of ‘fact sheets’ and ‘resources’,” the OAIC said.

“Their content has been consolidated into pages addressing a particular topic or, in many cases, moved to Privacy Guidance and Advice or FOI Guidance and Advice.”

The OAIC said however that while the site was now web-first, some of the longer guidance would still offer PDF versions.

It said the new site could be accessed at www.oaic.gov.au and feedback emailed to [email protected].
