The Department of Health has announced that proof-of-vaccination requirements will be expanded from 31 January, when they will apply to venues and events throughout the State.
Since 4 January, proof of vaccination has been required for a number of higher-risk venues and events in Perth and Peel, as part of a safe transition from the Delta backpacker cluster and to counter the growing threat of the Omicron variant.
In a statement, the Department said that under the new arrangements, double-dose proof of vaccination for those aged 16 and older would be required for visitors to public and private hospitals, and aged care facilities; all hospitality venues; indoor entertainment venues; bottle shops; major stadiums; gyms, fitness centres and health studios; and amusement parks.
It said proof of vaccination would also be required for those attending music festivals and large events with more than 500 people and community sport and school-based events, unless exemptions applied.
“People will be required to show proof of their COVID-19 vaccination, either in a digital or paper-based form, along with approved identification, if not using the ServiceWA app,” the Department said.
“Venues, staff and patrons will have a shared responsibility when it comes to proof of vaccination, with venues required to take reasonable steps to ensure all patrons are double-dose vaccinated, or exempt.”
The Department encouraged people to use ServiceWA, a free app that allowed people to show proof of vaccination, check-in with SafeWA and access a G2G Pass for interstate travel — all in one place.
