Multicultural Queensland Month in August also marks the release of a new Multicultural Action Plan, supporting Queenslanders from diverse backgrounds to overcome barriers to getting involved in local life.

Minister for Multicultural Affairs, Leanne Linard said the plan consisted of actions to build the economy and community, provide better access to interpreters, improve cultural diversity data and enhance service delivery.

“It marks the next phase of work that must be done. The plan ensures people from all backgrounds are supported in practical ways and have opportunities to feel valued and welcome,” Ms Linard said.

“Communities thrive when we all work together to ensure everyone is supported to connect, contribute and belong.”

She encouraged people to visit the Multicultural Queensland Month website to see how they could get involved in the community celebrations.

“There is something for everyone, including a special podcast series being delivered by our media partner, Radio 4EB, which will share diverse Queenslanders’ stories and perspectives,” the Minister said.

Ms Linard said the Multicultural Queensland Awards would also be held in August and would recognise the outstanding efforts and achievements of those who supported and promoted a united, harmonious, and inclusive Queensland.

“I can’t wait to announce the winners and I’m sure their stories will inspire us all to work together to build an even more inclusive Queensland,” she said.
