Construction of a pavilion and small stage on the Kings Park and Botanic Garden’s Exhibition Ground Lawn are planned to begin next month.
The Exhibition Ground Lawn is located on the north-eastern side of the park within the popular Fraser Avenue precinct, and is surrounded by marri, tuart and pines trees.
In a statement, the Botanic Gardens and Parks Authority (BGPA) said the new development would be wheelchair-accessible and could be used for small concerts or shows, an outdoor cinema, markets, weddings, and small sporting events or fitness classes.
“Part of the Exhibition Ground Lawn will be closed from early May for contractor, Landscape Australia Construction to begin site preparation and building works. It is expected work will be completed by mid-August,” the Authority said.
“The work is part of the State Government’s $5.5 million WA Recovery Plan announced in July 2020 as a response to the COVID-19 pandemic.”
BGPA said the Exhibition Ground Lawn was an ideal setting for the development.
“It offers visitors a large open grassed area, tucked behind the pine forest on Fraser Avenue,” it said.
“The venue has a mixture of shade from the mature Tuart trees and plenty of sunshine, and is often used for the Friends of Kings Park native plant sales.”
