Transport Canberra has announced the four new voices of Canberra’s light rail following a competition amongst the Territory’s students.
It said students in Years 11 and 12 from schools along the light rail corridor had been invited to audition for the important role.
“The search for the finalist began with 16 entries from students attending Merici, Gungahlin and Dickson colleges,” Transport Canberra said.
“Narrowed down to nine finalists, on Wednesday 28 April it came down to the annunciation of passenger information, the clear tones and friendly voice,” it said.
The judges were the Minister for Transport, Chris Steel; Radio personalities at Hit104.7, Ned & Josh; Marketing and Communications Specialist at Canberra Metro Operations, Sally Coyle; and Instructor with Guide Dogs Association, Lindy Hou.
“The voices of light rail are critical for accessibility, safety and customer experience on light rail and are a key part of passengers daily commute,” the Agency said.
“The voices let us know what the next stop is, what side of the light rail vehicle to exit from and general information that assist passengers during their journey.”
It said the new voices of the light rail were those of Elizabeth Ween, James Clayton, Emma Carpenter and Shivansh Vachaspati.
Transport Canberra said the four winners would soon be recorded for the official light rail announcements to be used across the entire line.
