New honour for preventing violence

The Department of Child Safety, Youth and Women (CSYW) has announced a plan to honour Queenslanders who have taken a stand against domestic and family violence.

The Department said they are to be recognised in the State’s first Domestic and Family Violence (DFV) Prevention Honour Roll.

In a statement, the CSYW said it did not matter whether it was a big corporate which had taken the lead and done amazing things to benefit victims of DFV, or a little corner store which ran a fund-raiser for a local DFV service.

“Or it could be a person who’s reached out to a neighbour they were worried about,” the Department said.

“We will acknowledge those contributions — big or small — that help build the collective efforts across the community to say ‘not now, not ever. Together.”

It said nominations were being accepted across four categories: Individuals; Small Business; Community Organisations, and Corporates.

“Recipients will receive a signed certificate, an exclusive graphic for inclusion in signature blocks, websites and profiles, to promote that they have been recognised for their contribution, and will also be featured on our website,” the Department said.

“As Queenslanders, we look after each other and it’s important we recognise those who’ve done just that.”

Nominations close on 7 September with recipients to be announced later that month.

Online nominations can be accessed at this PS News link.
