The Department of Primary Industries and Regional Development says this year’s edition of the Regional Traineeship Program, which encourages people to stay and work in their local community, is open for applications.
The Department said grant funding per trainee had increased this year to $37,000 per person and was available to Western Australian Community Resource Network (WACRN) centres and eligible Local Governments.
“The grant is a one-off payment to assist in the development of trainees’ skills and knowledge, based on local business and industry needs,” the Department said.
“In the past two years, 109 grant recipients and their communities have benefitted from the Program, with trainee placements throughout regional Western Australia.”
Minister for Regional Development, Alannah MacTiernan said the Program targeted support for regional people to develop a career in their local community, while building capacity and opportunity in the regions.
“Last year’s program saw 58 organisations employing trainees who studied courses ranging from digital media and technology to tourism, community work and business administration,” Ms MacTiernan said.
“I encourage Community Resource Centres and eligible Local Governments to work closely with regional businesses to make sure the Program is delivering tangible outcomes for both trainees and their employers,” she said.
Applications are open for six weeks.
