Two new urban fire trucks have been delivered to the ACT Emergency Services Agency (ESA) with the role of strengthening the ACT Fire & Rescue’s (ACTF&R) fleet.
Minister for Police and Emergency Services, Mick Gentleman said the two specialised vehicles would enhance ACTF&R’s ability to respond to emergencies across a range of situations.
“There’s a new specialised urban pumper equipped with a 25 metre ladder and rescue platform and a new larger truck with a 42 metre aerial platform for accessing multi-story buildings,” Mr Gentleman said.
“Both vehicles feature advanced technology including thermal cameras and wheelchair accessible ramps,” he said.
“We’re providing our firefighters access to safe, reliable, purpose-made equipment for responding to structure fires and emergencies as more Canberrans choose to live and work in multi-storey buildings.”
Mr Gentleman said a new specialised urban pumper would be named after retired Chief Officer of ACTF&R, Mark Brown as a lasting recognition of Mr Brown’s outstanding contribution to the ACT Community.
He said the two new fire trucks delivered on the Government’s $4.2 million commitment in the 2018-2019 ACT Budget.
Acting Chief Officer of ACTF&R, Chris Zeitlhofer said the service’s firefighters were looking forward to continuing their training with the new vehicles, to ensure they were ready to provide 24/7 rapid response to the community.
