New check on long service leave

The Department of Mines, Industry Regulation and Safety has announced that Wageline’s new long service leave calculator is now available in the long service leave section of the Wageline website.

The Department said the calculator, primarily for private employees, could provide an estimate of an employee’s long service leave entitlement when employment ended as a result of resignation, dismissal, death or redundancy.

“The WA long service leave calculator is relevant to employees covered by the Western Australian Long Service Leave Act 1958,” the Department said.

“The Act applies to most private sector full time, part time and casual employees, including employees covered by national modern awards.”

It said the calculator should not be used if an employee was taking long service leave while still employed.

“The long service leave page on the website has information on an employee’s entitlement to take long service leave while remaining in employment,” the Department said.

It said the new calculator complemented Wageline’s existing comprehensive information on long service leave but cautioned that the results from the calculator were estimates only, based on the information the user provided.

“The calculator and information provided are intended as a general guide only and are not designed to be comprehensive or to provide legal advice,” the Department said.
