Transport for NSW is to introduce almost 1,000 additional weekly bus services to Sydney’s inner west later this year.
Announced by the Minister for Transport, Andrew Constance the new services will include faster services via Parramatta Road and more services on Sundays.
“From October we’ll be making changes to some bus routes and timetables to improve the frequency of services on key routes, improve travel times and give customers more choice around when they travel,” Mr Constance said.
“In addition to around 1,000 extra weekly services across the Inner West, customers will benefit from new all-day limited stops services along Parramatta Road between Abbotsford, Burwood and the Sydney CBD, as well as a new direct service travelling through Rodd Point, Haberfield, Leichhardt and Lilyfield to the city,” he said.
Mr Constance said almost 200 extra services would be added each Sunday in areas like Concord, Five Dock, Harold Park, Dulwich Hill and Newtown.
Chief Operations Officer at Transport for NSW, Howard Collins said some routes would be replaced by new routes or extra services on existing routes.
“These changes will also see some routes withdrawn,” Mr Collins said.
“The M10 and M50 are two routes which extend from the inner west to the eastern suburbs,” he said.
“Less than four per cent of customers on these routes travel between these two regions, and with other frequent bus and light rail services, we can serve customers better by using these buses on other routes.”
Mr Collins said the new schedule will be introduced on 25 October.
