The ACT Civil & Administrative Tribunal (ACAT) has marked the new year by releasing a video detailing the types of assistance it can provide to Canberrans.
Launching its Do you need assistance whilst attending ACAT? video, the Tribunal said the video detailed what assistance it could provide to people, including those who were vulnerable or had specific needs.
“The video provides contact details for the Courts and Tribunal Assistance Officers, who you can contact before you come to ACAT to discuss the assistance you may need and what arrangements ACAT can make to respond to your needs,” ACAT said.
It said they types of assistance it could provide included a pre-hearing tour of ACAT, testing technology aids, large print copies of documents, arranging an interpreter, accommodations for assistance animals, and alternative security screening measures.
The Tribunal said it could also provide reasonable adjustments in conference and hearing rooms and link people with specialised support services.
“The ACT Courts and Tribunal have a canine support program aimed at reducing the anxiety levels of ACAT users,” ACAT said.
“Please contact us to arrange for a therapy dog and their handler to visit ACAT to support children, vulnerable persons, victims and other ACAT users.”
